Black swan is a metaphor for something that could not exist. Nassim Nicholas Talib, in his book "The Black Swan" shares that at one time, the Western world though that all swans were white. Therefore, something that does not exist was referred to as a black swan. Imagine their surprise when they found that black swans were native to parts of Australia.
